Day 1-2 -- Mtn. View to Paris

We flew Mtn. View --> ORD --> Paris. Almost missed our connection at ORD by hanging out in the Flagship Lounge too long, but that's another story. In Paris, we took theMetro to see the Basilica Sacre-Coeur, which we had seen before only from a distance, and the nearby "Tissue" neighborhood, which has zillions of fabric stores. Then we went off to the base of La Tour Eiffel.

From there we decided to walk back to the Montparnasse district, not too far from our hotel, but it turned out to be about a 2.5-mile walk. We passed the the church of St. Francis Xavier, and then got into the restaurant area, including such quaintly named cafes as "The Smoking Dog" (if you can't translate the French, look carefully and you can see the dog's image on the neon sign).

We had dinner at one of our favorite places, La Coupole, which features paintings on its pillars inside the dining room. Then we took the Metro to Cite, the island on the Seine with Notre Dame Cathedral, and near the Latin Quarter. We figured that was enough for one day, and returned to the hotel early, by 10pm.
