Day 3 -- Paris to Ruedesheim

Today we slept relatively late (9am) and left Paris at a decent hour (1pm) to take a series of three trains to Ruedesheim. For the first one, a Thalys train, we had to pay a supplement, but we were pleased to see that it included lunch and a snack. On our last train, we got our first view of the Rhine and castles, not to mention a nuclear cooling tower.

Kate was very pleased with our hotel and room in Ruedesheim, which featured a pool, a balcony, and a view of the Rhine and a church on the hill on the other side. Also, we were just a few steps away from Drosselgasse, Ruedesheim's "party" street featuring numerous restaurants with live music.

We vacillated over which restaurant to go to for dinner (too confined, don't like the menu, don't like the music, no seating available, etc.), until we wandered up to the next street Obergasse, and found a restaurant with no one in it. Now this was at 8:45, well into the dinner hour even for Europe, so this would normally be a very bad sign. However, the restaurant wasn't completely empty -- there in the back, on stage, was a musical group that looked and sounded like a young ABBA . Putting temerity aside, we went in and ordered, and were the only customers for the next fifteen minutes. Then, the restaurant started filling up, and by the time we left at 10pm, it was totally full. We were very happy with our choice!
