Day 6 -- Neuschwanstein and Munich

We head out early for Neuschwanstein, King Ludwig's castle and the destination of our favorite hike. Everyone's tired from getting up for the early train but only John is awake enough to catch the napping action on camera. After a snack at our little quick-snack stand, we're on our way up the hill.

We're amazed that our path is open, considering how much rain Europe has had, but it's open. There's a huge amount of water in the river and our venture on the catwalk is exciting. We reach the Marienbrucke bridge looking for our friend "Grampa," the guy who wears lederhosen and takes photos of tourists. But he isn't there today -- it's Sunday, or maybe he retired. We miss him! Then it's too the castle, down the hill, back to town and the train station, and another nap for Kate and Edwin on the way back to Munich.

We have a nice dinner and John orders an Apfelstrudel, before John and Kate head out to their overnight train to Amsterdam. Cozy, ain't it? For us, we'll be two days in the Netherlands and back to Germany for a day. For Edwin, it's back to the Munich airport and home Monday after a brief but exciting weekend with the Wakerlys.
