Day 8 -- Amsterdam

A busy day, our second and last in Netherlands. We really like this country, so pretty and green everywhere and we have had exceptional weather.

This morning we took a bus tour, something we usually don't do (overrun by tourists, etc....) but it was very nice. In a little over 4 hours they took us to see windmills at Zaanse Schans, an open-air museum also featuring a demonstration of wooden shoe-making. Kate tries to pet a swan, who isn't at all up for the idea. Then we are transported to a cheese farm, and then to Volendam and, by boat, to the little village of Marken.

After that, it's off on our own to the Heineken brewery tour back in Amsterdam, and a little strolling around town, to see the Rijksmuseum which had closed by the time we got there. We visited our "old neighborhood," where we stayed years ago, and found that the strange "It Club" has apparently gone out of business. Tsk! For dinner we enjoyed the Indonesian specialty, rijkstaffel, which featured some 15 dishes. Yum!
