Day Twenty...

Is it ever hard to leave Boppard and the Rhineland!!!! It probably helps that it's a rainy, gloomy day, but then we like that kind of weather, too. We pause for a few more boring photos of ourselves at the Hotel Bellevue just before rushing out to catch a train that will take us to Frankfurt.

Our last Fruhstuck in Deutschland... Michael is somewhat despondent, as you can see. Everyone else is relieved at the prospect of not having to pose for photos for at least a few days.

What luck! We are too far from the United Red Carpet lounge at the Frankfurt airport, so we ask if their partner Lufthansa will let us use their lounge, and they agree! Lufthansa does everything well, and the snacks here are great. There's even a gummy-dispensing machine, which John really likes.

On the plane, we settle into our seats for the 12-hour flight directly to San Francisco. More gourmet foods for Bonnie -- tomatoes and mozzarella, which we have had at a few places. Must be a favorite dish in Europe. Then there's the salmon and halibut appetizer which John liked.

Here's the view for a good deal of the trip. Seems like we were over Greenland and northern Canada forever. The scenery is, well, chilling. Kate decided this would not be a good place to land in case we developed engine trouble or some such. Nothing resembling civilization, just snow and frozen lakes.

On our way home at last! Our driver picks us up at San Francisco airport and we are hoping to stay up for a few more hours before we turn into zombies.

And, as they say, a good time was had by all!
