Following a beer truck on the autobahn, on the way to the airport. Hate to leave that German beer behind. | Zonked out on the plane, almost to Singapore. |
This will be a really long day because it will be capped by a 12-hour flight. But more later.
We intend to go shopping in Munich and browse around Hertie, a huge department store which has every imaginable thing, from clothes to toys to a floor full of foods. Gina finds a bargain backpack in a small shop and we have lunch in an outdoor cafe. We enjoy seeing a variety of street performers in the Marienplatz and then get ready for a trip to the airport, again.
First, it's a one-hour flight from Munich to Frankfurt, again on Lufthansa. Amazingly, in this little flight we are served a round of cocktails and a nice sandwich. Both the Munich and Frankfurt airports are very clean and attractive. We've got an hour to kill in Frankfurt so we go to the business class lounge and the guys do some computing, of course. Then, it's back to a plane, a 747, waiting to take us to Singapore overnight.
We get on board the Lufthansa 747 at 10 p.m. for the overnight flight to Singapore. The flight crew is huge and we are in the front of the plane, where one would normally find the pilot! (The pilots are all upstairs...) We are served a round of drinks, get newspapers, goodie bags, etc. etc. and enjoy looking at the built-in TV's at each seat. The TV monitors track the flight and give you continually updated information on time, distance, etc.
Dinner is great as we've come to experience on Lufthansa, and then everyone drifts off to sleep. This is easier said than done for some people. The flight is VERY bumpy because there are tropical storms below. Susie sleeps like a rock through it all but Kate keeps waking up everytime we hit a new round of turbulence, which is about every 20 minutes.
